ADDING VALUE TO YOUR BUSINESS

NACD

As a member of the National Association of Chemical Distributors, we take on the responsibility of servicing our customer’s needs by offering expert knowledge on our products and processes, as well as providing a value-added service to our customers in a professional, responsible manner. Viking is committed to product stewardship and responsible distribution in every phase of chemical storage, handling, transportation, and disposal. A member-voted condition of membership in the Association is a signed commitment to the NACD’s Responsible Distribution, which requires members to continuously improve performance in protecting health, safety, security, and the environment.

ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 REGISTERED

In order to maintain our competitiveness in the market, we have applied this effective and efficient plan, consisting of set standards that help our customers achieve cost effective and quality assurance methods. Standards ensure desirable characteristics of products and services such as quality, environmental friendliness, safety, reliability, efficiency and interchangeability – and at an economical cost.

When products and services meet our expectations, we tend to take this for granted and be unaware of the role of standards. However, when standards are absent, we soon notice. We soon care when products turn out to be of poor quality, do not fit, are incompatible with equipment that we already have, are unreliable or dangerous. When products, systems, machinery and devices work well and safely, it is often because they meet standards. And the organization responsible for many thousands of the standards which benefit the world is ISO.” www.iso.org

PLANT, EQUIPMENT & ENVIRONMENT

PLANT & EQUIPMENT

Our company facility currently contains 190,000 square-feet of space and separate solvent lubrication and corrosive tank farms, totaling 275,000 gallons of storage capacity, and including temperature sensitive “Hot Rooms”. The facility and tank farms are both dedicated with efficient processes and full production capabilities to fit your important needs. The plant has been engineered with state-of-the-art equipment to maximize our capability, flexibility, and efficiency.

Viking’s blending facility features high-tech equipment, three dry mixers, five liquid blenders, and advanced monitors allowing for contract blending of liquid & dry products.

We continue to invest in facilities and system upgrades, including an addition in 1998-99 and another completed in 2003 that reconfigured and added 25,000 square-feet of warehouse space and indoor bulk storage.

ENVIRONMENT

In 2003 Viking Chemical became one of the first chemical distribution companies in America to become registered to the ISO 9001 quality standard, the ISO 14001 environmental standard, and the NACD Responsible Distribution Program (RDP). As an ISO 14001 company, since registration Viking has been audited annually by a representative of NSF International to assure Viking continues to adhere to the environmental requirements. Beyond compliance with the standard, Viking aggressively seeks to recycle as much as practical. Everything from paper to containers are kept out of landfills and reused or recycled.

In expanding the physical plant, Viking has incorporated numerous containment features to prevent any product from reaching the environment. Viking’s staff includes personnel with decades of experience in a variety of disciplines to assure the company operates in an environmentally responsible manner.

Viking has successfully sought to reduce energy consumption by selecting more fuel efficient vehicles for company sales representatives. The company continues to explore alternative energy opportunities including wind and solar.

OUR HISTORY

Established in 1956 as a full line chemical distributor, serving the greater Rockford, IL market.

Added bulk capacity in 1959 and extended geographic penetration to fifty miles.

Moved to present southeast Rockford, IL location in 1962, have continued to purchase adjacent/contiguous parcels of land to allow for continued growth. Added lubricant blending capabilities in 1974 to become a more full-service supplier to our industrial customers.

Solvent blending and cleaner blending became important part of VIKING in the 1970’s. Purchased assets and equipment of Applied Chemical Technologies in 1985, providing VIKING an entry into the water treatment market.

Expanded geographic service area during 1980’s to extend our customer base to a 300 mile radius of Rockford, IL.

Built new solvent tank farm in 1990’s to anticipate and prepare for increased business and regulation.

Established with four other Chicago area distributors, ChemSource, LLC in 1999. ChemSource, with the addition of eleven more like minded distributors throughout the United States is now known as the Chemical Distribution Network. Our goal is to blend the responsiveness and focus of entrepreneurial companies, such as our own, and equal the strengths of a large national company.

Created the VIKING Management System, a quality and environmental management system conforming to the ISO 9001-2000 quality and ISO 14001-1996 environmental standards in 2003.

Viking Chemical purchased SES in October of 2010. This acquisition was aimed at teaming a well-established equipment company with Viking Chemical to offer our customers a total inclusive chemical treatment and equipment approach. We have found that this acquisition has been mutually beneficial to our customers as well as Viking Chemical.

In August of 2013 VIKING added a White Room to its packaging facility. This capability allows VIKING Chemical to package and distribute Food Grade Propylene Glycol, Glycerin as well as many other products, to its new and existing customer base. The recently developed White Room is Kosher Certified by the Chicago Rabbinical Council and was designed to be energy efficient.

September, 2013 VIKING Chemical is proud to announce its partnership with POLIGRAT GmbH. Not only is VIKING distributing the POLIGRAT product line, VIKING has been granted manufacturing rights for much of the POLIGRAT product line. For more than 60 years POLIGRAT has specialized in the development, production and application of special processes for the chemical and electrochemical finishing of metal surfaces. POLIGRAT processes are being used worldwide to meet stringent surface requirements as well as product functionality and appearance.
